Description
The 2020 vintage in Barossa Valley left a lasting impression with its superb quality wines, despite facing challenges during the growing season. Unfavorable conditions, including poor flowering and an extremely dry winter, spring, and summer in 2019/2020, resulted in reduced yields. The winter and spring were exceptionally dry, reminiscent of historical records from 1939 and 1961. November posed further difficulties with frosts and adverse weather during flowering. Subsequent heatwaves from mid-December to January’s end impacted shoot growth and berry size. Fortunately, a much-needed rainfall of around 40mm arrived just before veraison, followed by a cool ripening period in February. The resulting vintage, starting in late February and ending in late March, delivered near-optimal conditions for fruit ripening. The red wines of the 2020 vintage exhibit intense color, exceptional fragrance, spicy nuances, and well-structured attributes. Despite lower yields, the quality of these wines remains exceptional.
